NCIS star Brian Dietzen expressed his joy after learning that NCIS: Los Angeles star Daniela Ruah will be returning to the program. The actress, who played Kensi Blye in the Los Angeles spin-off until it was cancelled last year, is returning to the NCIS universe to direct two episodes.

Daniela announced the good news on Instagram, writing, “Here we go again! This year, I’m thrilled to be directing an episode of NCIS and NCISHawaii! “Stay tuned…”

In the comments area, Brian was quick to respond, writing, “See you soon!” beside the praise hands emoji.

Fans reacted positively to the news, with one saying, “That’s fantastic news to cheer us all up, you know it will be amazing,” and another, “So happy for you Dani!” I’m looking forward to seeing your episodes. Congrats!”

Daniela will begin filming this month, beginning with an episode of NCIS that will air in March, followed by an episode of NCIS: Hawai’i that she will direct in February for an April air date.

Daniela told Deadline about her return to the franchise: ‘Kensi was born as a character on NCIS 15 years ago, so the opportunity to return to that set as a director, with that wonderful cast and crew, is an enormous honor.’

“There are so many familiar faces and people I love who have welcomed me with open arms.” It’s like returning home.”

This isn’t Daniela’s first time behind the camera; she made her directorial debut on NCIS: Los Angeles in season 12 and went on to direct five more episodes.

Fans of the show were heartbroken when the spin-off ended after 14 seasons in May of last year.

The story ended on a happy one for Daniela’s character Kensi and her husband Deeks (Eric Christian Olsen), who found out they were expecting a child. Meanwhile, Callen (Chris O’Donnell) married Anna (Bar Paly) in a city hall wedding.

While CBS did not reveal the cause for the show’s cancellation when it was announced in January 2023, it was speculated at the time that budget constraints were a role.

Later that month, Daniela stated that she was “not sad” that the program was ending, but rather that it was “time to move on creatively.”

“I’m not sad that it’s coming to an end. “I think the show has had an incredible, long run, we’ve told phenomenal stories, and the characters have grown and matured in front of everyone on the show,” she told ET. “It’s a bittersweet feeling. It’s time to move on creatively, but it’s going to be so difficult not to be with this great family of individuals.”

Daniela has been extremely busy with various projects since the series end in May, including acting in Netflix’s Portuguese-language series, Turn of the Tide, and hosting the Portuguese version of The Traitors, Os Traidores.
