NCIS is one of the most popular procedural dramas ever, beloved for its compelling characters. Two of the most enduring and well-loved are Tony DiNozzo and Ziva David, played by Michael Weatherly and Cote de Pablo. Their on-screen chemistry sparked speculation about a real-life romance.
So, did they ever date?
According to Nicki Swift, Weatherly and de Pablo became great friends on set, but never dated. In an Entertainment Weekly interview, de Pablo said their dynamic mirrored their characters: “We sort of hated each other immediately, and loved each other immediately.” Weatherly was impressed by de Pablo’s dedication and talent, saying he “fell hopelessly, desperately into an enchanted spell” with her performance.
However, both were in other relationships at the time. De Pablo was dating actor Diego Serrano, while Weatherly was with his now-wife Bojana Jankovic, with whom he later had two children.
Their characters’ storylines kept fans hooked. DiNozzo, introduced in 2003, was a snarky yet dedicated agent, while Ziva, a Mossad spy-turned-agent, joined in 2005. Their relationship on NCIS was marked by tension, loyalty, and romantic hints. Ziva left in 2013, and Weatherly departed in 2016, leaving fans wishing for more.
Though Tony and Ziva never pursued a full-fledged romance on-screen, their undeniable chemistry made them a favorite duo, and their bond in real life was just a strong friendship.
