Will Mark Harmon Be Back on NCIS..? He Has 1 Condition

‘NCIS’ fans mourn Mark Harmon, but he could return to the show in the future if one condition is met. Here’s what the problem is.

Fans of NCIS will miss Mark Harmon as Leroy Jethro Gibbs. Harmon joined the show when it first aired in 2003, and he played Gibbs for 19 seasons before leaving.

He’s clearly missed by NCIS fans, who want to see him return to the show at some point. So, should NCIS fans give up hope of seeing Harmon return?

Here’s his one stipulation that might persuade him to return.

Perhaps Mark Harmon will go back to “NCIS” for the “right story.”

Mark Harmon addressed his final goodbyes to NCIS in Season 19, Episode 4, “Great Wide Open.” Leroy Jethro Gibbs will be sorely missed, as there is no other character in the series like him. Is there any chance that Harmon may return to the small screen for more NCIS in the future?

Harmon may return if a fascinating plot entices him, according to executive producer Steven D. Binder. Otherwise, we shouldn’t expect to see Gibbs return anytime soon.

“There’s always head space for him to come back,” Binder told TV Insider in May 2022. “I think it just has to be the right story to get him excited about it and us excited about it.” It’s a card to play, and I don’t believe we want to play it lightly. I believe that when we do play it, we must do the right thing.”

The filming schedule for NCIS might potentially indicate that Harmon could return to the show, but viewers would still have to wait months to see Gibbs back in action. “And we work on a different timeline than other shows,” Binder went on to say. “Other shows might have a year or two, or they’re not sure how much time they’ll have.” We basically work on a much longer time frame for these things than other shows, for better or worse.”

Binder wasn’t in a rush to write fresh Gibbs stories in 2022. “I feel like we left Gibbs in this magical place …,” he went on to say. ” … I spotted him on a river, smiling with a knife in his pocket and fish in the boat, which I never see him do. That’s how I picture him, and that’s how I intend to keep picturing him.”
