NCIS star David McCallum has expressed “frustration and anger” over Cote de Pablo’s decision to leave the show.

McCallum told Digital Spy that he was surprised when the Ziva David actress left the US drama’s 11th season early. According to McCallum, who plays Donald ‘Ducky’ Mallard, “it was frustration and anger that someone should just walk out on us.”

I just don’t understand how a main lady in an international show, who apparently aspires to be an actress, walks away from such a gem and leaves a couple of days before production begins. The veteran actor told DS that de Pablo’s unexpected departure required the NCIS writers to rewrite the first five episodes of season 11.

This business is merciless, so the entire crew of writers rushes in and rewrites the first five episodes, he explained. When that happened, you thought to yourself, ‘This is a dangerous route to take,’ yet they pulled it off.

De Pablo stated in August that leaving NCIS was “not an easy decision” and “not one taken lightly.”
