NCIS creators feared the worst when Michael Weatherly quit after 13 seasons, believing it was the end of the show.

With previous departures of fan favorites such as Abby Sciuto and Leroy Jethro Gibbs, losing another significant performer appeared to be a death blow. Despite these hurdles, the legendary procedural continues to thrive, demonstrating its tenacity over two decades.

Michael Weatherly Left The Cast of ‘NCIS’ in 2016.

Michael Weatherly, known for his role as Tony DiNozzo on ‘NCIS,’ left the popular CBS series in 2016. DiNozzo, a senior NCIS agent under Gibbs’ leadership, has become a fan favorite since his appearance in a JAG episode that inspired the creation of ‘NCIS.’

Weatherly’s departure ended DiNozzo’s spectacular trip, as he departed the squad to care for his daughter with colleague Ziva David. Weatherly’s decision to leave was motivated by a desire to spend more time with his family, which includes his wife Bojana Jankovic’s children.

Weatherly told People that he is looking forward to being more present with his family. He hilariously acknowledged the difficulties of reconciling power and tenderness as a dad.

The Executive Producer of ‘NCIS’ Did Not Believe The Show Could Continue Without DiNozzo.

NCIS faced uncertainty when Michael Weatherly, who played DiNozzo, wanted to leave. Executive producer Mark Horowitz feared the show’s demise without him.

However, the arrival of Wilmer Valderrama breathed new life into the series with his character, Nick Torres.

Former CBS president Glenn Geller acknowledged the challenge of losing a key character but praised the show’s ability to evolve and introduce new favorites while maintaining the essence of the beloved originals.

‘NCIS’ star Michael Weatherly Hinted A Return.

Weatherly has been gone from NCIS for seven years. He later appeared in CBS’s Bull, however the show terminated in 2022. But is the actor thinking about resuming his role as DiNozzo? NCIS fans are hoping after a recent social media update.

“I have the impression that things are starting to happen. Things that are going to be incredibly exciting. “Stay tuned,” the actor tweeted on X, the site formerly known as Twitter, in July 2023.

Some speculated that Weatherly was prepared to confirm his return to NCIS, which is entering its 21st season. He also hinted at a probable return in a January 2023 post on X, according to TV Insider. However, there has been no formal confirmation that Weatherly will return to the show.

  1. Abby burned her bridges. If she returned she would leave when anything happed she did not like. She would blame others.
Michel Weatherly is not a person that you should take back. He plays the part of a spoiled brat. Also he takes credit for others work; he steals others credit and food; he belittles others work.
