NCIS, the beloved police procedural that enthralled audiences for 19 seasons, has seen a rotating door of talent since its debut in 2003. With the 20th season on the horizon, fans are yearning for the days when Pauley Perrette and Sasha Alexander brought famous characters to life. Despite the loss of prominent personalities such as Abby Sciuto, Michael Weatherly, and Cote de Pablo, the show remains popular. Here’s a look at where the original cast members are now, as the NCIS legacy goes on.
Pauley Perrette, known for her role as Abby Sciuto on NCIS for 15 years, left the show in 2018 amid speculation. She recently disclosed suffering a “massive stroke” post-departure. Perrette woke up with no feeling on her right side, prompting medical attention. Despite Abby’s iconic presence, tensions reportedly arose between Perrette and co-star Mark Harmon (Leroy Gibbs). Perrette addressed bullying via Twitter, vowing not to engage in negativity. Her final episode notably lacked scenes with Harmon, with Abby observing from afar as Gibbs read a letter she wrote. At 53, Perrette has retired from acting and maintains she won’t return to NCIS.
Mark Harmon has led NCIS for 19 seasons as Leroy Jethro Gibbs, a former Marine turned special agent. Prior to NCIS, he played Dr. Robert Caldwell on St. Elsewhere and had an Emmy nomination for The West Wing. Harmon also works as an executive producer for NCIS. In his personal life, he has been married to Pam Dawber for 35 years and has two boys. His son Sean has played a young Gibbs on the show.
Sasha Alexander made her NCIS debut through the JAG backdoor pilot, playing Caitlin “Kate” Todd. After two seasons, she left due to the grueling filming schedule. Her character was k1lled off in Season 2. She’s since starred in Rizzoli & Isles and directed an episode of You on Netflix.
Michael Weatherly played Special Agent Anthony DiNozzo on NCIS for 13 seasons and appeared in all four NCIS programs. He left the show in season 16, when his character discovered he had a daughter with Ziva David. Weatherly has since taken on lesser parts and presented tasks, but his primary attention has been on his family. He is married to Dr. Bojana Janković and has two children. He also has an elder son from a previous relationship.
Chilean actress Cote de Pablo portrayed Ziva David on “NCIS” from seasons three to 11, starting at the end of season two. She replaced Sasha Alexander’s character but played a distinct role. Ziva had various storylines, including a romance with Anthony DiNozzo and having a child with him. When she left, the character was k1lled off-screen, but there were hints of a possible return. De Pablo maintains a low profile, avoiding social media to preserve her privacy, unlike many other celebrities.
Lauren Holly portrayed Jenny Shepard on NCIS from seasons three to five. Shepard, as Director of NCIS, had complicated storylines and a history with Gibbs. Despite hints of lingering feelings between them, Shepard was slain at the end of season five after Holly elected to leave the show. Prior to NCIS, Holly had a successful acting career, appearing in films such as Dumb and Dumber, for which she received an MTV Movie Award. In recent years, she has been in Designated Survivor and The Family Law. Holly is married three times and has three adoptive sons.
