Recently, the life of a beloved actor, husband, father, and grandfather who always put his family first was lost. David McCallum, best known for his stint on “NCIS,” unexpectedly d1ed a few days after turning 90.
CBS, the network that produced the long-running sitcom, issued a statement confirming his d3ath. According to reports, the Scottish actor d1ed of natural causes in New York Presbyterian Hospital, accompanied by his family.
David McCallum put his family first and dedicated himself to spending more time with them.
Many people remember the late family man for his role as the medical examiner on “NCIS,” but his acting abilities were recognized long before that.
From 1964 through 1968, he captivated audiences as a Soviet spy in “The Man from U.N.C.L.E.”
Though David valued his great job, his family was crucial to him, and the celebrity prioritized them above all else. In fact, David would do everything he could to change his job schedule so that he could spend more time with his family.
For nearly 50 years, the “Sapphire & Steel” hero was married to Katherine Carpenter, with whom he had children and, eventually, grandkids.
At the time, the late actor was still on “NCIS,” but he had worked out a deal with the show’s management that allowed him to spend more time with his family:
“I am thrilled to announce that I have reached an agreement with CBS to keep Dr. Donald Mallard on NCIS for Season 16.” Once again, the schedule will be constrained. That arrangement will enable me to spend more time with Katherine, our children, and our six grandchildren…”
What David McCallum Said in an Interview Just Before He D1ed
Last year, the late grandfather was interviewed about his work and life. David reflected on the beginning of his career, notable moments, accomplishments, and crucial and impactful contacts he made along the way during the talk.
David had plenty of specifics to give about his experiences, emphasizing that his job was frequently surprising. “The Great Escape” talent offered the following memories from his life and career:
“There are so many people and places that I remember.”
Among the many issues highlighted by David, his devotion to providing for his family and his time on “NCIS” were mentioned. He mentioned the show after gushing about his talented wife. David discussed going to California to tape the show:
“On this contract, I have two gigs left…I’m guessing it’ll be the last two programs of the season. Usually, they want everyone in those.”
Despite his reservations about flying to film with new people – several of his former co-stars had left the program during that period – David still had certain people he knew and liked working with. That actor also admitted that retirement was still a work in progress for him and his wife, Katherine.
The late actor’s loved ones are still mourning his untimely d3ath, and many have expressed their sympathies. David’s wife, children, and grandchildren survive him.

My fondest memories of David was in The Man From U.N.C.L.E. and then The Great Escape. NCIS allowed a more mature David to enter my viewing. As a Christian I was impressed with his portrayal of Judas Iscariot in The Greatest Story Ever Told. David will forever be in my mind and heart.
