Mark Harmon is well-known for his iconic role as Leroy Jethro Gibbs in CBS’ long-running action series NCIS.

Fans may be stunned to see Mark Harmon in this vintage shot looking nothing like his NCIS days as Gibbs. In his performance as Peter Cabot in the 1981 science fiction TV drama Goliath Awaits, Harmon, 72, appears youthful.

The American actor, who was in his late twenties to early thirties when Goliath Awaits was released, has dark brown hair and a moustache and looks entirely different.

The film, which was originally broadcast in two parts, follows Harmon’s scientist and his colleagues as they make a startling discovery in the 1980s.

The scientists come find the Goliath, a sunken British ocean liner torpedoed by a German U-boat in the 1930s, just before World War II broke out.

Cabot is sh0cked to find survivors and descendants of those on board prospering and living on the vessel after devising new technologies to support them in their isolated existence, rather than a wreckage and the watery burial of the deceased passengers and crew.

The ship appears to be a utopian paradise at first glance, but Cabot and his crew begin to make more disturbing discoveries.

A federal conspiracy that reaches all the way to the White House is woven into this.

Goliath Awaits also includes iconic Star Wars and Lord of the Rings actor Christopher Lee, Oscar-nominated star Eddie Albert, John Carradine, Robert Forster, Emma Samms, and Jean Marsh, in addition to Harmon.

Harmon’s career dates back to the 1970s.

Along with NCIS, Harmon has appeared as Dr. Jack McNeil in Aaron Sorkin’s popular political drama The West Wing, for which he received an Emmy nomination, the teen film Freaky Friday, JAG, and Chicago Hope.

Other films in which he has appeared include Charlie Grace, Reasonable Doubts, Long Road Home, Moonlighting, and 240-Robert.

Harmon was a regular on NCIS from 2003 until 2023 and later became an executive producer on the show.

He was also an executive producer on the spin-off series NCIS: New Orleans.

Harmon just left NCIS as Gibbs, but he remains very much a part of the franchise and is rumored to be working on a book.

Harmon had a successful collegiate football career before deciding to pursue a career in law or advertising.

He then opted to follow in the footsteps of his actress mother, Elyse Knox.

After scoring a TV commercial as one of his earliest roles, he moved on to minor roles that lead to larger roles.
