Blue Bloods is a family, both on and off the screen. The primary characters are all related, but the actors who play them have become extremely close over the years.
They are supportive of one another and have stated that they intend to work together for at least another couple of seasons.
With all of this in mind, it’s intriguing to learn that one of the show’s big stars was hesitant to participate.
They were hesitant because they felt they might not be the ideal fit for the role they were offered. They thankfully changed their minds, and the rest is history.
On Blue Bloods, who portrays Danny Reagan?
Donnie Wahlberg, the show’s most outspoken backer, is the star in question! The actor had established himself as a supporting actor in films such as The Sixth Sense (1999), Saw II (2005), and Righteous Kill (2008), but he had to decide whether he was ready to take on a main part in a show that would be seen by millions.
“As an actor, I don’t think I would have been ready to play it 10 years ago,” Wahlberg told The 92nd Street Y. “Perhaps even 8 years ago.
But when this portion came along, I was willing to go with what was written on the page and risk the audience not liking me for the sake of the play. And it turns out that people understand the character more than I did.”
While playing opposite Tom Selleck would be enough to terrify most actors, Wahlberg decided to put himself to the test, which is a good thing because NYPD cop Danny Reagan has become his trademark part. At the 2017 People’s Choice Awards, he was nominated for Favorite TV Cr1me Drama Actor, and he praised Blue Bloods with helping him find a hosting role on the show Very Scary People.
“I probably wouldn’t have done Very Scary People if it hadn’t been for Blue Bloods,” he told People Magazine. “I think Blue Bloods prepared the audience for me to be the host of Very Scary People in some ways.” Because of my involvement on Blue Bloods, I believe I have some legitimacy as the host of this show.”
