Tony DiNozzo and Ziva David are without a doubt two of the most enduring and well-liked. DiNozzo and Ziva, played by Michael Weatherly and Cote de Pablo, were fan favorites who each went through their own trauma.
They also had on-screen chemistry, which made many fans question if Weatherly and de Pablo ever dated behind the scenes.
Did Michael Weatherly and Cote de Pablo ever get together?
According to Nicki Swift, while Weatherly and de Pablo got along great on the procedural drama and became great friends throughout their time together, they never actually dated.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, De Pablo joked that their relationship was similar to DiNozzo and Ziva’s in many ways: “We sort of hated each other immediately, and loved each other immediately.” That friendship was formed the moment we met.”
Weatherly stated that he was immediately impressed by de Pablo’s attention and determination, and that he thought she was the appropriate choice for Ziva. “(I) was amazed by the focus and the clarity of (de Pablo’s) performance, and before I knew it, I had fallen hopelessly, desperately into an enchanted spell,” he remarked.
The fact that they were both in other relationships may have prevented them from falling in love – de Pablo was seeing actor Diego Serrano, while Weatherly was dating his now-wife, Bojana Jankovi. Weatherly and his lady love eventually married and had two children.
Tony DiNozzo and Ziva David were neighbors and business partners.
Tony DiNozzo, played by Weatherly, first appeared on NCIS in 2003 and instantly became a fan favorite. DiNozzo’s snarky retorts and dedication to his job helped him stand out from the start. His chemistry with practically every character contributed to the show’s popularity, but it was his relationship with Ziva David, a tough, no-nonsense agent with a troubled past, that really struck a chord with viewers.
Ziva, as played by Cote de Pablo, is an Israeli Mossad spy turned NCIS agent who has no issue standing up to any of the team’s guys. De Pablo joined NCIS in 2005 and continued on the show until 2013, when she decided to leave due to creative differences with the writing team.

Weatherly left NCIS in 2016 to work on other projects. While Weatherly has always professed pleasure with how DiNozzo’s arc ended, many fans were disappointed with how things ended between him and Ziva. DiNozzo and Ziva were depicted to have a turbulent relationship during their time on the show, frequently fighting and taunting each other in tiny ways.
The two agents were always there for one other and saved each other’s life on multiple occasions. Despite their evident romantic affinity, DiNozzo and Ziva never pursued a romance onscreen. The writers sought to avoid any obvious traces of a romance by involving the two characters behind the scenes, even having a daughter together. Many NCIS fans were disappointed, pointing out the pair’s wonderful chemistry and asking if Weatherly and de Pablo had dated offscreen.
