Will he or will he not? Mark Harmon left the possibility of his character, Special Agent Gibbs, returning to NCIS open. Insiders believe his vacillation over returning to the CBS show is driving his former co-stars insane! “Mark’s been teasing a return to the show, and everyone wanted him back,” a Closer source said.

The 71-year-old then became distracted by his new WWII book, Ghosts of Honolulu, which is about the first Japanese American Office of Naval Intelligence, and began to wobble. “He’s still on the fence about returning to the grind,” a source says. “People wish he would stop getting them excited only to let them down.”

Wilmer Valderrama, whose profile on the series has grown since the actor’s 2018 exit, is one person hoping Mark will continue with his exec-producing duties and stay off-screen. “Wilmer has nothing personal against Mark, but he wouldn’t mind if he never came back,” says one of the sources. “This has been Wilmer’s time to shine and he feels like he’s finally a main star, not a supporting player.”
