NCIS returns for Season 21 this winter, but without longtime performer David McCallum, who has played Chief Medical Examiner Donald “Ducky” Mallard for more than 20 years.

While McCallum has made fewer appearances in recent seasons, his absence is a huge change. With Dr. Jimmy Palmer (Brian Dietzen) taking over as the team’s primary doctor, Ducky’s duty switched to NCIS historian, assisting the team on cases as needed.
