Boston Blue: Sean Reagan’s New Profession Has Fans Completely Confused

Loyal Blue Bloods fans were stunned when Danny Reagan’s son, Sean, showed up in the new spin-off Boston Blue – and not just because the role was recast. Mika Amonsen has taken over for Andrew Terraciano, but the real shock came when viewers discovered that Sean is now a police officer, despite showing little interest in law enforcement on the original series.

When Boston Blue kicks off with the episode “Faith and Family,” audiences find Sean already working the beat in Boston, with no explanation for his career change. The last time fans saw him on Blue Bloods, Sean was exploring his artistic side, so his sudden leap into police work felt jarring.

To make matters worse, viewers barely get to see him in action – within the first fifteen minutes, Sean is critically injured while heroically rescuing people from a fire while off-duty. Though the moment proves he’s inherited the trademark Reagan courage, he spends the rest of the episode in a coma, leaving fans with more questions than answers about this new version of the character.

On Reddit, fans voiced their frustration over Sean’s new path. “They should’ve had him be something else – a lawyer, journalist, firefighter – not a cop,” wrote one user. Another added, “I’d hoped Sean would follow his uncle’s footsteps and go to Harvard Law. The reason he and Danny move to Boston is ridiculous.”

With Boston Blue already sparking debate, it looks like Mika Amonsen has a tough task ahead – winning over Blue Bloods fans who aren’t sure they like this new, grown-up Sean Reagan or the direction the spin-off is taking.
