Pat Finn, a character actor best known for his roles on hit TV comedies including The Middle, Friends, and Seinfeld, has died following a battle with cancer. He was 60.
Finn passed away Monday night, his representative confirmed. In a statement, his family said he was first diagnosed with bladder cancer in 2022, went into remission, and later faced a recurrence that spread. “He was a warrior in every sense of the word,” the statement read.
Comedian Jeff Dye paid tribute on social media, calling Finn a close friend with a “perfect sense of humor.”
Finn was best known for playing Bill Norwood on The Middle, appearing in 23 episodes between 2011 and 2018. The ABC series starred Patricia Heaton and followed a working-class family in Indiana.
Born in Evanston, Illinois, Finn attended Marquette University, where he became close friends with late SNL star Chris Farley. The two later lived together in Chicago while performing with the Second City comedy troupe.
Finn’s TV résumé included appearances on Murphy Brown, The Drew Carey Show, That ’70s Show, Curb Your Enthusiasm, 2 Broke Girls, and The Goldbergs. He played Joe Mayo on Seinfeld and Dr. Roger, Monica’s boyfriend, on Friends. His film credits included Dude, Where’s My Car?, I Love You, Beth Cooper, and It’s Complicated.
He is survived by his wife of more than 30 years, Donna, their children Cassidy, Caitlin, and Ryan, along with his parents and five siblings.
