After fifteen years, Blue Bloods, a staple of CBS’s primetime Friday night slot, is coming to an end. According to TV Insider, CBS has chosen NCIS: Sydney to take over this coveted timeslot.
According to reporter Matt Roush, NCIS: Sydney, which is entering its second season, will replace Blue Bloods. When asked if CBS might air all NCIS shows on the same night as NBC’s One Chicago, Roush said it was doubtful. CBS prefers to spread its popular series across multiple evenings, particularly with more NCIS shows coming next year.
Originally aired on Paramount Plus Australia, NCIS: Sydney gained a broader release due to the Hollywood strikes and completed production before the strikes began. Now, it will occupy a prime spot on CBS, reflecting confidence in both the spinoff and the NCIS brand. This comes after the unexpected cancellation of NCIS: Hawai’i, which had included NCIS: Los Angeles star LL Cool J.
As NCIS: Sydney takes on this important role, it remains to be seen whether it can sustain its popularity amidst the upcoming spinoffs.
