A Rare NCIS Moment: The Final Two Original Cast Members Reunite

The NCIS franchise has evolved a lot since its 2003 debut, and a full reunion of the original cast is no longer possible. David McCallum passed away in 2023, Sasha Alexander’s Kate Todd was k1lled off early, and Pauley Perrette has ruled out returning as Abby Sciuto. Mark Harmon also exited the series in season 19 with Gibbs’ retirement.

Still, two original cast members who remain active in the NCIS universe recently reunited off-screen. Michael Weatherly and Joe Spano crossed paths at creator Donald P. Bellisario’s 90th birthday, with Weatherly sharing the moment on Instagram.

Weatherly famously played Tony DiNozzo until season 13 and is now returning to the franchise via Paramount+’s NCIS: Tony & Ziva. Spano, who debuted as FBI agent Tobias Fornell in the pilot, most recently appeared in NCIS’ 1000th episode.

Although DiNozzo and Fornell haven’t shared the screen in years-and likely won’t anytime soon-their reunion is a reminder of the show’s deep roots.

With nostalgia still strong, NCIS could easily lean into its history by bringing back familiar faces, even if a full original-cast reunion remains out of reach.
