NCIS LA’s Renee Felice Smith shares support from co-star over new project away from series

Renee Felice Smith, star of NCIS: Los Angeles, shared a touching post from NCIS star Emily Wickersham, who backed the Nell Jones actress in her latest work project away from the CBS drama.

Nell Jones (played by Renee Felice Smith) returned to television earlier this year as part of the cast of NCIS: LA’s 12th season. Smith’s character has long been a fan favorite among CBS viewers, though some have begun to question whether Nell has a long-term future on the show following recent events, which included a brief hiatus in season 11 and more action-packed storylines this season. For the time being, Smith appears to be a permanent fixture on NCIS: Los Angeles, but that hasn’t stopped her from focusing on new projects outside of the drama, such as her new book.

Hugo and the Impossible Thing is a new children’s book written by the NCIS: Los Angeles star and her other half Chris Gabriel.

The children’s book, illustrated by Sydney Hanson, was inspired by the couple’s own pet dog, who overcame a life-threatening illness.

Smith and Gabriel’s book was published on March 31, 2021, and by early April, it had risen to the top of Amazon’s Children’s Values Books list.

While many of Smith’s fans have expressed their admiration, NCIS star Emily Wickersham – best known for her role as Ellis Bishop in the flagship drama – has written her own tribute to the actor’s accomplishment.

Taking to Instagram, Wickersham shared a photo of the book to her 315k followers.

“The world needs more books like this one,” Wickersham penned before tagging Smith and Gabriel in the post.

“This was such a sweet story! Thank you! [Love heart emoji] Go Hugo!” Wickersham added.

And it didn’t take long for Smith to respond to the NCIS star’s glowing endorsement with her own kind words.

“Thank you, my friend [love heart emoji],” Jones wrote in response via her own Instagram story.

This isn’t the first time stars from the NCIS universe have reached out to Smith to congratulate her on her ability to balance her time on the show with writing her own book.

When Smith first announced the project in early March, it didn’t take long for stars of the CBS drama to reach out.

“Cannot wait to read!! [cry emoji],” Medalion Rahimi wrote in response, while Caleb Castille shared a series of applause emojis.

Hugo and the Impossible Thing is now available on Amazon for fans who want to get their hands on the book.

On NCIS: LA, however, Smith’s character Nell is at somewhat of a crossroads.

In the most recent episode, Nell found herself doubting her own abilities after taking over the team from Hetty (Linda Hunt).

Admiral Kilbride (Gerald McRaney) however, planted doubt in her mind when he chastised Nell for how the team has been run in recent years.

Nell eventually sought advice from Kensi Blye (Daniela Ruah), who tried her hardest to persuade her that she was the right person for the role.

But could this end up with Nell stepping down in the not-so-distant future?

Fans will have to wait a little longer to find out because the next episode of NCIS: LA season 12 won’t air until May 2 on CBS.
