NCIS Fans Must Stop What They Are Doing To Hear This Star’s Major Season 21 Update

It appears that the forthcoming seasons of primetime programming, including the famous CBS procedural NCIS, will be gloomy. When will NCIS Season 21 premiere?

During the ongoing Hollywood strikes, one of the show’s key stars provided an update.

NCIS is a CBS police procedural that has been running since 2003. The show follows the personal and professional lives of special agents assigned to the Naval Cr1minal Investigation Service’s Major Case Response Team, which investigates cr1minal conduct involving members of the United States Navy, Marine Corps, and their families.

NCIS is the third-longest-running primetime drama series in the United States, after only Law & Order: SVU and Law & Order. Currently, the cast includes Sean Murray, Wilmer Valderrama, Brian Dietzen, Diona Reasonover, Katrina Law, Davis McCallum, Rocky Carroll, and Gary Cole.

CBS has renewed the flagship series, as well as its spin-offs NCIS: Hawai’i and CSI: Vegas, for the 2023-2024 season. Season 21 was supposed to premiere in the fall of 2023, but that date is looking increasingly implausible.

The writers and actresses of NCIS will cease union labor in July 2023 and will take to the picket lines in solidarity with SAG-AFTRA and the Writers Guild of America.

The cast of NCIS has taken to social media (and the picket lines) to discuss the recently initiated SAG-AFTRA strike. Katerina Law posted several images from the front lines. She captioned one of her images, “Picking crocs on!”

Both Sean Murray and Wilmer Valderrama uploaded the SAG-AFTRA emblem on their Instagram sites with the phrase “#SAGAFTRAstrong.” Diona Reasonover also updated her Instagram profile photo to “WGA On Strike.”

The national board of the Hollywood actors’ union SAG-AFTRA approved a strike on July 13, 2023. The union represents 160,000 actors in television and film. Actors are not permitted to work union positions, promote their own films and shows, attend press junkets, premieres, and other events while on strike.

The strike comes just two months after the WGA went on strike on May 2, 2023. The demands of performers and writers are similar: they want higher compensation for TV series and movies (especially those on streaming platforms), larger residual income for their work on streaming services, and artificial intelligence laws.

So, when will NCIS Season 21 return? During the ongoing strikes, one of the actors provided a bleak update on the show’s prospects.

When will NCIS Season 21 premiere?

When will NCIS Season 21 premiere? We don’t know for sure, but Season 21 of NCIS could be delayed until early 2024 or later. Brian Dietzen, who has played Dr. Jimmy Palmer on NCIS since 2004, provided a brief update on the show’s situation.

Dietzen published a photo dump from his recent trip to Greece with his wife Kelly on July 7, 2023. He described his vacation to Santorini, Naxos, and Athens in the caption. However, near the end of the message, the actor alluded at the status of NCIS Season 21 filming.

He said, “Now back to work… eventually?” after outlining his trip. I’ll stay on the picket lines till then. “I hope you’re having a wonderful summer!” Dietzen also helped write two episodes of NCIS in Season 19 and Season 20, therefore he’ll most likely be on the picket lines with the WGA and SAG-AFTRA.

Fans filled Dietzen’s comment area, expressing their admiration for the NCIS actor and writer. “I can’t wait to see you on NCIS again, Brian!” Will you be creating any more scripts after the strike is over?” one Instagram user inquired. “Thank you for sharing and for walking the picket line with the WGA!” said another.

Typically, primetime series begin production for the upcoming season around July in order to meet the September premiere date. Production on NBC’s One Chicago normally begins roughly two months before an episode airs (future episodes are then written during the actual season). We should already expect delays to the upcoming season because we are nearing the end of July, and this will only worsen if the strikes continue.

It’s also worth noting that, when Season 21 filming resumes, episodes may be edited short due to shorter production times. (For example, according to Movie Web, when the WGA went on strike from November 2007 to February 2008, shows such as Grey’s Anatomy, Bones, Scrubs, Friday Night Lights, and others all saw episode cuts.) Strike leaders believe they’re in it for the long term, so production is unlikely to resume for a time.

NCIS is available on Paramount Plus for streaming.
