Fans were perplexed by Abby Sciuto’s departure from NCIS. They’ve now discovered some loose ends in the character’s storyline.
The majority of writers for shows like “NCIS” write the episodes ahead of time. Yes, they may make changes at the last minute before filming. However, the season and all of the show’s storylines are written in advance for the most part. As a result, when an actor departs from the show, the writers must scramble to rewrite the show and make the season work without that character. That was the case when Pauley Perrette, who played Abby Sciuto on “NCIS,” left the show. Perrette left the show in 2018 after 15 years as a fan favorite.
With such an abrupt exit, writers needed to act quickly when revising scripts for the next season. However, since Perrette’s departure from “NCIS,” fans have noticed a plot hole. And, more than three years later, the show has yet to resolve a loose thread from her final episodes. In a Reddit thread, fans discussed the plot hole.
But, before we get to the fans’ thoughts, let’s take a look at the episode in question. NCIS HQ is locked down in the 18th episode of the 2017-18 season. And the team is compelled to solve a cr1me from within. Ellie Bishop (Emily Wickersham) and Jimmy Palmer (Brian Dietzen) blow a hole in Sciuto’s high-tech lab. They eventually destroy her mass spectrometer. Bishop and Palmer braced themselves for Sciuto’s wrath if she discovered they were to blame for the damage.
‘NCIS’ Fans Speak Out About the Show’s Gaping Plot Hole
Sciuto, on the other hand, never confronted her two coworkers, and the problem was never resolved.
“So, in ‘D3ath From Above,’ Bishop and Palmer accidentally blow up Abby’s mass spectrometer while fleeing, and they’re terrified she’ll find out,” one Reddit user wrote. “She appears to be on the verge of doing so at the end of the following episode.”
Bishop still refuses to confess to the expl0sion in season 15 episode 19 titled “The Numerical Limit.” And Sciuto appears to be on the verge of a nervous breakdown as she pieces the puzzle together and discovers the truth. When fans tuned in for the next episode, they were surprised to see that “NCIS” had dropped the storyline entirely. Abby Sciuto leaves NCIS just a few episodes later.
“Then the whole thing is seemingly forgotten about, and she leaves in ‘Two Steps Back,’ seemingly without ever learning about it,” the user wrote. “How come this entire plot point was just dropped for no apparent reason?”
The outcome seemed out of character for both Bishop and Sciuto. Sciuto was far too astute not to figure out who was to blame for causing damage to some of her most prized lab equipment. And Bishop is the type of person who would eventually admit to her wrongdoing. So it was strange that neither of those things happened.
