Mika Amonsen opened up about stepping into the role of Sean, Donnie Wahlberg’s son, in Boston Blue, a part originally played by Andrew Terraciano on Blue Bloods.
“I definitely felt a ton of pressure at first,” Amonsen told Us Weekly. “I wanted to respect Andrew the best I could, even keeping certain visual choices and mannerisms to honor his portrayal.”
Amonsen added that he aimed to balance tribute with his own take. “I wanted to maintain Sean as close as I can to how Andrew built him, while also adding something of my own. The showrunners have given me a lot of freedom to explore this new dynamic with Donnie.”
Before filming, Amonsen binge-watched Blue Bloods, focusing on the later seasons to understand Sean’s character as an adult. “We’re exploring a relationship with Sean and his dad that hasn’t been seen before,” he said. “He’s now a cop in Danny’s field, and we see the challenges they face both as father and son and as coworkers.”
Despite some initial fan skepticism over the recast, Amonsen remains positive. “There’s been some negativity, but a lot of fans are rallying for Sean and enjoying the version of the character I’ve created. That makes me happy.”
