In an exclusive interview, ‘NCIS’ star Mark Harmon discussed his incredible love story with his wife, Pam Dawber, best known for her role in ‘Mork and Mindy.’
The journey began 37 years ago with a spontaneous cold call initiated by Harmon, who made a direct approach after a mutual friend’s planned group date.
Harmon, now 72, reminisced, “I said, can I just call? Can I get a number and just cold call, and so I did. I got the number and I called, and I got an answering machine, and I started to leave a message.”
The couple’s first date happened that night, and they’ve been together ever since. Their romantic journey culminated in marriage exactly one year later.
Harmon’s long-lasting relationship came to light when he was named People’s Sexiest Man Alive in 1986, where he expressed his desire for a long-term, monogamous relationship.
The couple now has two adult sons, Shawn and Tai, with Shawn continuing in his father’s footsteps on ‘NCIS,’ and Tai pursuing a career as a screenwriter.
When asked about the secret to their enduring love, Harmon replied, “I have no secret. We laugh. You got to laugh, and you got to talk and communicate; that’s the fun part. Maybe you just get fortunate and find the right one.”
Harmon’s family has always come first, which influenced his decision to play Special Agent Gibbs on ‘NCIS,’ a role he played for 19 seasons.
Despite a demanding career, Harmon valued being present for family moments, emphasizing the value of laughter, communication, and finding the right partner.
