Mark Harmon Reveals Whether He’ll Return to NCIS After Surprise Cameo

Mark Harmon is officially back on our TV screens as Leroy Jethro Gibbs-and fans are already emotional. Although Harmon left NCIS in 2021, he continued to narrate NCIS: Origins. Now, ahead of a major franchise crossover airing November 11, 2025, CBS shared a first look at his on-screen return.

In a clip posted to the official NCIS Instagram on November 6, Gibbs is seen at home, quietly jotting notes from an old case-hinting that he may be reconnecting with both past and present NCIS teams. The caption teased, “Mark Harmon is back as Gibbs on #NCISOrigins! Is he revisiting the past with Lala?”

Fans instantly celebrated the moment. Comments poured in with messages like “Welcome home, Gibbs!!” and “I can’t believe we’re actually getting him back.”

It’s still unclear whether Harmon’s return will extend beyond the crossover event, but he’s open to the idea. Speaking with TV Insider on November 10, he said he remains focused on what serves the show best, adding that Origins follows a path similar to the early days of the original series: “Not a bad idea if it works. So we’ll see.”

For now, viewers are just thrilled to see Gibbs back in action-and eager to find out what comes next.
