Mark Harmon Breaks His Silence as NCIS Fans React to His Unexpected Career Shift

NCIS fans, get ready – Leroy Jethro Gibbs is officially stepping out of retirement. After four years away from the franchise, Mark Harmon is returning for a major NCIS/NCIS: Origins crossover coming November 11, 2025.

Though Harmon has stayed connected to the universe as an executive producer and narrator for NCIS: Origins (where Austin Stowell plays young Gibbs), viewers have been waiting to see him back on screen – and now it’s finally happening.

“We know how much fans have missed seeing Mark,” said co-showrunners David J. North and Gina Lucita Monreal. “Gibbs is no longer alone.” The special two-hour event will reveal what Gibbs has been up to since he disappeared to Alaska.

Fans exploded with excitement at the announcement, calling the news “legendary” and “worth the wait.”

Harmon himself seems thrilled about slipping into Gibbs’ shoes again. “They came to me with an idea for Gibbs that I liked,” he said. “It seemed like a good time to check in with him.”

Looks like November is shaping up to be an unforgettable night for NCIS fans.
