Mark discussed the legacy of his character and his thoughts on how Gibbs’ storyline was wrapped up in a special featurette on the show’s season 19 DVD release.
According to reports, Mark earned $525,000 per episode.
He stated that the opportunity to tackle “fresh” and “challenging” material is what keeps him coming back season after season, alluding to the possibility that after nearly two decades on the show, he no longer felt that way.
“What has always drawn me here is the character I play, and keeping it fresh and challenging,” he said.
Clarifying that he believes his character is “not retired,” he said: “The character is living in Alaska as far as I know.
“Plot-wise, this character has taken the path that it did,” he said of his character’s exit. I thought it was honest and acceptable.”
