Fans of NCIS Believe They Know Exactly How the Show Should End

NCIS is one of the longest-running dramas in television history. The CBS procedural has aired more than 440 episodes in 20 seasons and counting, ranking fourth all-time behind Law & Order, Law & Order: SVU, and Gunsmoke.

Fans are beginning to suspect that the show is coming to an end, especially in light of Mark Harmon’s departure.

And when the time comes for NCIS to take its final bow, fans believe they know exactly how the show should end.

In a recent ‘NCIS’ episode, Tim McGee filled in for Director Leon Vance.

NCIS director Leon Vance (Rocky Carroll) was the v1ctim of a home invasion in the most recent NCIS episode on CBS, titled “Guardian.”

He was able to apprehend the burglars and even k1ll one of them. However, Alden Parker (Gary Cole) was concerned. So he volunteered to be Vance’s security detail when he traveled to Berlin for a conference.

Tim McGee (Sean Murray) had to fill in for Vance as acting director while Vance and Parker were out of town.

McGee was initially dissatisfied with his new position. But he quickly realized that he was enjoying himself. And he was very good at it.

Fans believe they predicted how the show would end

Seeing McGee in Vance’s shoes prompted many fans to speculate about his future on the show. He joined the NCIS team as a recurring character in season 1, but was quickly promoted to a regular cast member in season 2. Agent Tony DiNozzo gave him the nickname “Probie” for 13 seasons (Michael Weatherly).

When Harmon left the series last year, fans were surprised when McGee chose not to take Gibbs’ job, which ended up going to Parker. However, they have realized that the position of director may be a much better fit for the character. It was even mentioned on the NCIS Twitter account.

Following the airing of the episode, the show shared a GIF of McGee saying, “I’m actually pretty good at it.” They wrote in the caption, “Director McGee could have a nice ring to it someday.”

This quickly elicited fan opinions on what they believe would be the ideal ending for NCIS. “Thinking that it will be Director McGee for the series finale,” one fan speculated. “Would be a nice conclusion to the series, are you hinting CBS?” said another. “Is this a foretelling?” asked a third. “I adore McGee!” “You guys are setting us up, aren’t you?” said another.

Will ‘NCIS’ be cancelled after season 20?

NCIS has undergone significant changes in recent years. It was moved to Monday night ahead of season 19 from its previous Tuesday night primetime slot, which it had held for nearly two decades. In addition, series star Mark Harmon, who has played Leroy Jethro Gibbs since 2003, has left the show.

Viewership has also declined significantly in recent years. Fans are also speculating that two more cast members may be leaving.

Fans began to wonder if Carroll was leaving soon after Director Vance temporarily handed over his job to McGee. For months, rumors circulated that Wilmer Valderrama, who has played Nick Torres since season 14, would be leaving after being cast in Disney’s Zorro reboot.

However, the future of NCIS will not be determined until next spring. Typically, CBS announces renewals in March and April.
