Tony DiNozzo, where are you when you need him? Over the course of the show’s nearly two decades, many original cast members have remained, but new faces have also come and gone. Mark Harmon’s Gibbs character was the most recent departure from the franchise.
Michael Weatherly, who played Tony DiNozzo on the show, recently announced the cancellation of his CBS show “Bull.” He left the show during season 13, shortly after landing the lead role in his own CBS show. “Bull” aired for six seasons before being canceled.
Could DiNozzo Return to ‘NCIS’..?
Fans of “NCIS” are hoping that this means Weatherly now has an open schedule. With an open schedule, he could make another appearance on “NCIS.” Although “Bull” fans were disappointed, “NCIS” fans saw a ray of hope after a somewhat depressing current season of the show.
Fans want DiNozzo back, but they also want him to bring back Ziva, his romantic partner on the show. “Perfect! Return to NCIS and take command of the team!” Bring Ziva!” wrote one Twitter user. “So does this open up for you to go save NCIS from dying off into the sunset that it’s heading to?” someone else asked.
Gary Cole has taken over as team leader since Gibbs’ departure. Although Agent Alden Parker is gaining popularity among fans, others prefer Weatherly to lead the team.
“Is it time to replace Gibbs?” This is only acceptable if it means you’ll return to @NCIS CBS,” wrote another. DiNozzo’s chances of appearing full-time appear to be slim. That would necessitate a significant number of changes to the storyline. However, as a guest star, that would certainly fulfill fans’ dreams and would be relatively manageable for writers.
Continuing from where DiNozzo left off
You might recall that DiNozzo left to avenge Ziva’s d3ath. He then decided to leave the team and devote his time to raising his daughter. He also found out later that Ziva did not d1e in the att4ck.
Has the end of “Bull” prompted the writers to work extra hard to figure out how to bring Weatherly back on the show? If they have, Weatherly has previously stated that he would be willing to return.
“[DiNozzo] will live on in the hearts and minds of the viewers and will be incorporated into the show.” “I would absolutely be open to anything and everything, including things no one has even thought of yet,” he said in a statement after leaving the show, according to Newsweek.
Some disgruntled fans have vowed to stop watching since Gibbs’ departure. Bringing back DiNozzo may pique the interest of some viewers who have become disinterested in the show recently. He isn’t Gibbs, but he was his right-hand man.
