Eduardo Xol, designer on ABC’s Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, passed away on Thursday at Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs, California, following a stabbing incident. He was 58.
On September 10, Xol was discovered with severe injuries after calling police for assistance. According to a statement from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department, he was hospitalized in serious but stable condition before dying from his wounds a week later.
A suspect, Richard Joseph Gonzales, 34, has been arrested and charged with murd3r. Gonzales initially claimed he had been assaulted, but police later identified him as the prime suspect and booked him without bail.
In a statement, Xol’s family expressed their grief and asked for privacy while seeking donations in his memory to the Lupus Foundation of America. Xol had always advocated for charity causes.
Joining Extreme Makeover: Home Edition in its second season in 2004, Xol remained a key part of the show until 2011. Beyond television, he was also a singer and actor, having appeared in several Mexican telenovelas in the 1990s.
His friend Richard Pérez-Fería paid tribute on Instagram, calling Xol a “talented, beautiful, passionate friend” and expressing deep sorrow over his loss.
