Blue Bloods was renewed for a 14th season by CBS in March, with the decision apparently contingent on the cast agreeing to a 25% wage cut going ahead.
Donnie Wahlberg wants Blue Bloods fans to get the satisfying conclusion they deserve.
Before the CBS drama was renewed for a 14th season in March, Wahlberg spoke to PEOPLE about the potential of the show being canceled without a decent conclusion – and why he didn’t want that for fans.
“I love Blue Bloods, and I think if there weren’t a season 14, the loyal fans of the show would be very, very outraged,” Wahlberg, who portrays Danny Reagan, said while promoting season 5 of Very Scary People on ID. “They’re a member of the Reagan clan.” “The audience consists of the extended family.”
He said, “If the show ended without giving [the audience] a decent send-off, I believe they would be horrified.”
He continued, “So I believe we’ll have at least one more season.”
Wahlberg stated at the time that they had not “finished dealing with” settling the renewal contract. However, according to Deadline and The Hollywood Reporter, the whole cast and producing crew decided to take a “25 percent pay cut” in order to move forward.
Blue Bloods, which premiered on CBS in 2010 and was co-created by Robin Green and Mitchell Burgess, depicts a multigenerational family of cops. Bridget Moynahan, Will Estes, Len Cariou, Marisa Ramirez, and Vanessa Ray provide supporting performances as the Reagan family patriarch.
In the meantime, Wahlberg is preparing for the season 5 return of Very Scary People, which he also executive produces.
“”I probably wouldn’t have done Very Scary People if it hadn’t been for Blue Bloods,” he told PEOPLE. “I think Blue Bloods prepared the audience for me to be the host of Very Scary People in some ways.””
“Because of my involvement on Blue Bloods, I believe I have some credibility as the host of this show,” the actor said.
