‘Boston Blue’ Brings Donnie Wahlberg and Marisa Ramirez Back Together – Inside Their Heartwarming Reunion

Danny Reagan might have traded New York for Boston, but one familiar face hasn’t left his side.

CBS’ brand-new spinoff Boston Blue premiered Friday, Oct. 17, giving Blue Bloods fans their first look at Donnie Wahlberg’s beloved detective as he adjusts to life in a new city after a devastating family emergency.

The episode kicks off with Danny’s son, Sean (Mika Amonsen), now a Boston PD officer, being seriously injured while trying to save victims from a shooting-turned-fire. Danny rushes to his son’s side – and quickly finds himself caught up in the case that caused the tragedy.

But fans got more than just a new mystery – they got answers about Danny’s longtime NYPD partner, Maria Baez (Marisa Ramirez). In one early scene, a shirtless Danny answers a late-night phone call with Maria right beside him.

“I thought we said when we stay at my place, we turn our ringers off,” Danny teases.
“It’s your phone, smart ass,” Maria fires back – confirming what fans have long suspected: Danny and Maria are finally a couple.

Later, Erin Reagan (Bridget Moynahan) makes a surprise appearance at the hospital, reassuring fans that the Reagan family bond remains strong. “Maria packed you some clothes,” she tells her brother. “You should call her – she’s worried sick.”

While Blue Bloods wrapped after 14 seasons in 2024, Wahlberg had hinted that Danny and Maria “stood in the doorway of possibility.” Boston Blue leaves no doubt that door is wide open.

The new series also introduces Sonequa Martin-Green as Boston detective Lena Silver, whose family becomes intertwined with the Reagans during an investigation into a deadly tech company fire.

Wahlberg celebrated the spinoff on Instagram, promising fans “surprises, answers, and a whole lot of heart.”

Looks like Boston Blue is bringing all that – and then some.
