Fans tuning in to the Boston Blue premiere on October 17 may have noticed a new face as Sean Reagan: Mika Amonsen takes over the role previously played by Andrew Terraciano on Blue Bloods.
Coshowrunner Brandon Margolis told Variety that the recast was a creative decision to explore “a new chapter in both of their lives.” He explained, “It’s not just Sean joining the family business in his own way-Danny Reagan is now a father to a cop, which he’s never been before. It felt like an organic opportunity to bring in new energy and open fresh storytelling lanes.”
Margolis praised Amonsen’s portrayal, highlighting his mix of vulnerability and determination. “It’s the same character, the same relationship, but also completely different,” he said. While Terraciano’s growth on Blue Bloods was appreciated, the team felt a new actor fit the story’s direction.
In Boston Blue, Sean has moved to Boston to forge his path as a Boston PD patrolman. CBS described him as “committed to his family’s legacy but determined to do so on his own terms,” giving Danny and Sean a chance to reconnect in meaningful ways.
For Wahlberg, returning as Danny Reagan in the spinoff has been a thoughtful choice. “I wanted to give Blue Bloods a chance to carry on,” he told Fox News Digital. On crossover possibilities, Wahlberg teased that while Danny explores this new world, other Reagans are “never more than a phone call away,” promising that the family’s traditions remain intact.
With new energy, fresh storylines, and the Reagan legacy still at its heart, Boston Blue is setting the stage for a bold expansion of a beloved franchise.
