Blue Bloods Suffered Major Ratings Setback Just After Season 14 Renewal

Blue Bloods, the beloved NYPD drama starring Tom Selleck, had a recent ratings drop, raising questions about its future despite its guaranteed renewal for a 14th season. The most recent episode drew 5.7 million live viewers and a 0.3 demo rating, down from previous weeks.

While the show has remained a CBS fixture for over a decade, its latest ratings pale in comparison to its former accomplishments, with the current season struggling to equal previous highs. Despite this setback, Blue Bloods remains one of CBS’s top primetime shows.

In contrast, CBS saw success with other Friday night dramas like SWAT and new series Fire Country, which outperformed competitors from rival networks. Fire Country, starring Max Thieriot, received its highest ratings since February, boding well for its recently announced second season. The enduring appeal of dramas on network television persists despite strong competition from streaming platforms.

Larry Manetti, Selleck’s old Magnum PI co-star, made a surprise appearance in this week’s show, which added to the excitement. Manetti’s portrayal of retired cop Sam Velucci breathed new life into the series, highlighting the two renowned actors’ long-standing friendship.
