Anthony Hopkins Breaks His Silence on Affairs and a Troubled Marriage

Two-time Oscar winner Anthony Hopkins is opening up like never before in his new memoir, We Did Ok, Kid, where he shares raw and emotional truths about his past marriages and family life.

The 87-year-old Welsh actor, now happily married to his third wife Stella Arroyave since 2003, reveals that his second wife, Jennifer Lynton, “turned a blind eye” to his infidelities during their nearly 30-year marriage.

“She turned a blind eye to whatever I was up to,” Hopkins writes, as excerpted by People. “It was only years later that she knew about my infidelities. I don’t know whether she took a lover too. I rather hope she did. She deserved better than me – she really did.”

Hopkins married Jennifer in 1973, following his first marriage to actress Petronella Barker, which ended in 1972 amid his battle with alcoholism. Reflecting on his second marriage, the actor admits, “She’d caught a tiger by the tail. I did not make it easy on her.”

The Silence of the Lambs star also opens up about his long estrangement from his only daughter, Abigail, 57, whom he shares with Barker. Hopkins left the family when Abigail was just one, later acknowledging, “I was unfit as a father. I vowed not to have any more children. I couldn’t do to another child what I’d done to her.”

Hopkins’ memoir offers an unflinching look at his journey – from his troubled childhood in Wales to the heights of Hollywood fame – and the deep regrets that shaped the man behind the legend.
