Andrew Terraciano Breaks Silence on the Moment He Learned He Was Recast in the Boston Blue Spinoff

Terraciano, who played Sean Reagan on Blue Bloods from 2010 until the show ended in 2024, did not return for the spinoff when it premiered in October. Instead, Mika Amonsen stepped into the role.

The 22-year-old actor told Us Weekly that he learned about the recasting on the day of his NYU graduation in May. After hearing from producers through his mother, Donnie Wahlberg personally called him. Terraciano described the moment as emotional and meaningful, saying it was a call from “an old friend” he deeply respects.

Reflecting on his years as Sean, Terraciano said playing the character was “beautiful” and that he’ll always cherish the experience. He added that passing the role to someone new is part of the character’s ongoing journey: “I got the joy of playing Sean… Now somebody else gets that joy.”

Terraciano still considers Wahlberg “friends and family first” and told him he’d always be there if needed – for life, not just for the show.

He also appreciated the fan support after the recasting, saying it meant a lot to know viewers cared about the character he helped build.

Boston Blue co-showrunner Brandon Margolis previously explained that the recast fit the new direction of the story. With Sean becoming a police officer and Danny Reagan now a father to a cop, Margolis said it felt like “an organic opportunity” to bring in a new performance that could highlight the character’s shift into adulthood.

Amonsen acknowledged some negative reactions but said many fans have embraced the new version of Sean. He aims to honor the character Terraciano developed while bringing his own interpretation. After being cast quickly, he focused on understanding who Sean had become by the end of Blue Bloods and how his relationship with Danny had evolved.
