Adam Rich, a former child actor best known for his role as Nicholas Bradford on “Eight is Enough,” died at the age of 54. The Los Angeles County Medical-Examiner Coroner’s Office verified his death, though the cause is still being investigated.

Betty Buckley, who played Rich’s stepmother on the show, expressed shock and fond memories of him on Instagram, calling him a “light” and a “young pal.”

Rich’s post-stardom life was marred by substance misuse and legal issues, including DUI and attempted burglary offenses. Despite being depressed and addicted, he was candid about his troubles on social media, encouraging others to never give up.

Rich, who also starred in “Code Red” and voiced Presto the Magician in “Dungeons & Dragons,” had a modest acting career beyond his iconic role on “Eight is Enough.”

His passing marks the end of an era for fans who remember him as the beloved child star of the 70s and 80s.
