Hollywood Mourns June Lockhart, Beloved Star of ‘Lost in Space’ and ‘Lassie,’ Dead at 100

Hollywood is mourning the loss of June Lockhart, the legendary actress best known for Lost in Space and Lassie. She passed away peacefully at age 100 on October 23 in Santa Monica, California, surrounded by her daughter, June Elizabeth, and granddaughter, Christianna.

Her family will hold a private funeral and requests donations to The Actors Fund, ProPublica, and International Hearing Dog, Inc.

Born June 25, 1925, in New York City, Lockhart began acting at age 8 and made her film debut as Belinda Cratchit in A Christmas Carol (1938) alongside her parents. She went on to star in Meet Me in St. Louis, She-Wolf of London, and countless TV shows, including Bewitched, Magnum P.I., and Full House.

Lockhart became a household name as Ruth Martin on Lassie and Maureen Robinson on Lost in Space, a role that inspired many future scientists. She was later honored by NASA with the Exceptional Public Achievement Medal for promoting space exploration.

A Tony Award winner and recipient of two Hollywood Walk of Fame stars, Lockhart was known for her adventurous spirit, love of rock ’n’ roll, and lifelong interest in politics.

Her daughter said, “Mommy always considered acting her craft, but her true passions were journalism, politics, science, and NASA.”

June Lockhart’s century-long legacy continues to inspire generations of fans and dreamers.
