Mark Harmon discusses the possibility of repeating his role as Leroy Jethro Gibbs in future NCIS seasons, indicating that he is open to returning.

With one condition, Mark Harmon is willing to reprise his role as Leroy Jethro Gibbs in NCIS. Harmon left the show in 2021, after having completed 19 seasons. While he hasn’t returned yet, the door is still open for a possible return because Gibbs just walked away from the position.

In a new interview with ET Online, the actor expresses interest in reprising his legendary role. However, he adds that if they intend to bring Gibbs back, he is currently unaware of it. Read his entire quote below:

“He’s probably fishing in a stream up in Alaska.” Is he going to make it out of the river? I’m not sure. But if he is, I’m not aware of it.”

Why Should Gibbs Return in Season 21..?

As NCIS Season 20 approached its conclusion, Brian Dietzen hinted at possible cameos from fan-favorite characters like Gibbs and Tony DiNozzo.

Despite high hopes for their return, the season ultimately focused on the current crew, with none of the mentioned characters making a comeback.

Following David McCallum’s passing this year, Gibbs, in particular, should make a return in NCIS Season 21.

McCallum has been an original cast member since 2003, playing Dr. Donald ‘Ducky’ Mallard, the chief medical examiner.

In light of recent events, Ducky’s extensive connection with Gibbs lends emotional weight to his probable return.

CBS proceeded with NCIS Season 20 without Gibbs, but his return is crucial for honoring Ducky in Season 21.

A tribute episode for the beloved examiner should include Gibbs, even if briefly, allowing him to pay respects to his old friend and take a break from fishing in Ducky’s memory.
