After Years of Memories, NCIS Reaches the End of an Era

NCIS Season 23 may have quietly set the stage for a major shake-up within the Major Case Response Team (MCRT). While the series has seen many cast changes over the years, new team members often arrive as others move on.

In Episode 11, “Army of One,” Jessica Knight works alongside Army CID officer Major Matthew Malone during a tense investigation. Although the two initially clash, they eventually develop mutual respect and successfully solve the case together.

Before leaving, Malone gives Knight his business card and expresses interest in joining NCIS. The moment may seem small, but it has sparked speculation that he could become a future member of MCRT.

If Malone does join the team, it could signal the departure of an existing character. Timothy McGee is one possible candidate, as the series has repeatedly explored his desire to move into a leadership role. A promotion within NCIS could create an opening for someone new.

Some fans have also wondered whether changes involving Alden Parker or Director Leon Vance could reshape the team’s structure. Others have speculated that Malone could eventually partner with Knight if additional cast changes occur.

While nothing has been confirmed, Malone’s introduction follows a familiar NCIS pattern, where new characters are gradually positioned to take on larger roles. If that proves true, Season 24 could bring one of the biggest changes to the team in years.
