What NCIS Fans Still Don’t Know About ‘Eleanor Bishop’

“NCIS” is still one of the longest-running live-action TV shows on the air today. While there appears to be an endless well of stories for the titular team to follow, that doesn’t necessarily mean the team will remain the same over time. Fans learned this the hard way when Special Agent Leroy Jethro Gibbs (Mark Harmon) left the show after 19 seasons to live a quiet life away from the hustle and bustle of solving cr1mes day in and day out.

Saying goodbye to characters is nothing new for “NCIS” fans, who had to say goodbye to Eleanor Bishop in the previous season. (Emily Wickersham). She joined the team in Season 11 and quickly proved to be an indispensable member of the team, even if fans didn’t always see her that way. Denigration of Bishop became common practice on specific subreddits and online forums, and even after her departure, fans still debate why she received such a disproportionate amount of vitriol.

Fans debate why Bishop was disliked by so many others.

Through her introduction, Bishop becomes an integral part of the team, and while “NCIS” fans tend to stick with the show through thick and thin, some of them couldn’t get over her inclusion. “I figured this was as good a time as any to really think about why people didn’t like Ellie when she first joined the show,” Redditor u/ohlordwhyisthishere muses. The user speculates that Bishop effectively served as a replacement for Ziva (Cote de Pablo), who was well-liked by fans. As a result, they could never truly accept Bishop as a member of the team, but it’s clear that not everyone felt the same way.

One user, u/MizzGee, defended Bishop, writing, “I actually loved Bishop. She was odd and brilliant. Remember how she used to sit on the floor, surrounded by files, and make ridiculous connections?” Then there are those who firmly believe in the “Hate Bishop” camp, such as u/Leading_Goose50, who says, “When [Ziva] left and we got Ellie….I almost stopped watching.” She just didn’t do anything for me.”

The divide appears to occur depending on when a viewer became addicted to “NCIS.” Those who have been with the show since its inception disliked Bishop, while those who joined later did. It’s a matter of preference, but Bishop left her mark on the series.
