Tom Selleck ‘Motivated’ to Get Back in Shape: Eyes Major Roles Post-Blue Bloods

Tom Selleck is working hard to regain his physical strength and mobility as he eyes major acting opportunities following the end of Blue Bloods. The 79-year-old star, who portrayed NYPD patriarch Frank Reagan for 14 seasons, is determined to keep his career going strong – and even hopes to saddle up again.

“Tom meant it when he said he wants to get on a horse,” a source tells Closer. “He’s had mobility issues, but he’s working hard to tackle that.”

Since Blue Bloods aired its final episode on December 13, 2024 – which drew a season-high 6.68 million viewers – Tom has shifted his focus to health and fitness. He’s lifting weights, practicing Tai Chi, doing physiotherapy, swimming, walking with his wife, and following a strict diet to drop weight and improve balance.

With his 80th birthday approaching, Tom remains driven. “He has a lot more he wants to accomplish,” the insider adds. “He’s especially eager to land a role in one of Taylor Sheridan’s shows like Yellowstone. That’s giving him the push to stay committed to his routine.”

Tom reassured fans after the finale that he’s not slowing down. “You change physically over 15 years, but I don’t intend to stop working,” he told Entertainment Tonight on December 14.

Behind the scenes, Blue Bloods accommodated his orthopedic challenges with scenes that minimized long hours on his feet. A source shared that any future roles will likely follow a similar structure, with CBS ready to build around Tom’s needs – ensuring the beloved actor remains in the spotlight.
