T.K. Carter, the beloved actor known for his roles in The Thing, Punky Brewster, and Space Jam, has died at the age of 69.
Carter, whose full name was Thomas Kent Carter, was found at his home in Duarte, California, on Friday. Authorities do not suspect foul play, though his official cause of death has not yet been released.
Born in New York City in 1956 and raised in Southern California, Carter built a career that spanned more than four decades. He first appeared on classic TV shows like Good Times, The Waltons, and The Jeffersons before landing his breakout film role as Nauls in John Carpenter’s iconic 1982 sci-fi thriller The Thing.
He later became a fan favorite on Punky Brewster as teacher Mike Fulton and went on to appear in series such as Family Matters, A Different World, NYPD Blue, Everybody Hates Chris, and How to Get Away With Murd3r.
In 1996, Carter voiced the Nerdluck alien Nawt in Space Jam, helping bring the Monstars to life alongside an all-star voice cast.
Fans quickly took to social media to honor his legacy, remembering him as a familiar and beloved presence across generations of television and film.
Carter’s final role was a recurring appearance on the FXX series Dave in 2023.
He is survived by his wife, Janet Carter. His warm talent and wide-ranging career ensure he will be fondly remembered by fans around the world.
