Prior to donning his official uniform as Frank Reagan in Blue Bloods, Tom Selleck established himself as a Hollywood mainstay with a string of television and film roles.
Fans adored him as the mustachioed detective in Magnum, P.I., and he’s also appeared in Friends, Three Men and a Baby, The Closer, and a number of other shows. He even appeared on The Dating Game.
Selleck has been an actor since the late 1960s, frequently as a leading man. However, he was fired from another popular TV show, and one of the executives in charge is now linked to Blue Bloods.
For 11 seasons, Tom Selleck has played Frank Reagan.
Tom Selleck is best known for his roles as Thomas Magnum and Jesse Stone, but he’s been playing the Reagan family patriarch Frank Reagan for more than a decade.
Reagan, a third-generation cop, is the police commissioner who, according to Selleck, “doesn’t like the job.”
Blue Bloods was recently renewed for a 12th season, and the question hanging over Selleck’s character is whether he will ever retire. During an appearance on Talks with Google in 2017, Selleck expressed interest in playing Frank.
“The way Frank is, he sends 35,000 people into danger every day.” “One of those people he ordered into danger was his eldest son,” he explained. He explained how Frank’s decisions are influenced by his loss.
“That weight of responsibility — which I find fascinating as an actor to try to play because you can’t really show weakness if you’re playing a person in command.”
You can’t show how scared, worried, or insecure you are. “You have to put on a commanding expression,” Selleck pondered.
He claims Frank’s inner conflict makes him entertaining to play with.
Selleck claims that his boss from ‘Blue Bloods’ fired him from ‘Charlie’s Angels.’
Selleck recently appeared as a guest on The Drew Barrymore Show, where he discussed his early career, Blue Bloods, and work-life balance.
Selleck revealed that he was fired from Charlie’s Angels after the pair joked about not doing any hemorrhoid commercials. The 76-year-old actor recalled appearing in one episode of the 1976-1981 TV series.
He was a love interest for Jaclyn Smith’s Kelly Garrett, but he only appeared once. Selleck stated that his Blue Bloods boss is directly involved in the situation.
“My boss Leonard Goldberg was heavily involved in Charlie’s Angels, and I always remind him that my part did not end up recurring.” After the first episode, they fired me. So, my Blue Bloods boss actually fired me from Charlie’s Angels. “I like to make fun of Leonard about it,” he said.
Outside of the show, Selleck collaborated with two ‘Angels’ co-stars.
Before appearing on that one episode of Charlie’s Angels, Selleck appeared in a commercial with Farrah Fawcett in 1972.
During his run on Las Vegas, he later co-starred with another Angel. Cheryl Ladd, who took Fawcett’s place in the cast, played Jillian Deline in Las Vegas.
