The long-running NCIS franchise has had a busy month. On March 10, a major character was killed off in the original NCIS series, and CBS announced that Katrina Law (Arrow, Hawaii Five-0) would join the cast in a recurring role.
Meanwhile, CBS revealed that NCIS: New Orleans will end after its current seventh season. However, fans won’t be without a new spinoff for long – NCIS: Hawaii is now in development.
With the original NCIS premiering in 2003, followed by NCIS: Los Angeles in 2009 and NCIS: New Orleans in 2014, the franchise has weathered many changes, including behind-the-scenes drama.
One such example is Pauley Perrette’s contentious departure from Abby Sciuto after 15 seasons in 2018. While her final show, “Date with Destiny,” aired without incident, Perrette later revealed on social media that she departed because of “multiple physical assaults.” A year later, she was more open about her unpleasant experiences on the show.
Despite ups and downs, NCIS continues to evolve and expand its legacy.
Because of star Mark Harmon, Pauley Perrette departed NCIS.
Pauley Perrette, who played Abby Sciuto on NCIS for 15 seasons, left the show in 2018 under troubling circumstances. On June 7, 2019, she tweeted that she would never return because she was “terrified” of lead actor Mark Harmon, even saying she had “nightmares” about him.
The argument reportedly arose from a 2016 incident in which Harmon’s dog bit a crew member on set. Perrette opposed to the dog being brought around, which supposedly strained their relationship. She then claimed that she had been “physically assaulted” for speaking out and losing her job as a result.
Although Perrette didn’t directly blame CBS, she did thank the network after it released a statement praising her and reaffirming its commitment to a safe workplace. Her issues appeared to be specifically with Harmon, with whom she stopped sharing scenes toward the end of her run – despite their characters having a close bond on screen.
Pauley Perrette was able to ‘Heal’ after leaving NCIS.
Since 2019, Pauley Perrette has been silent regarding her exit from NCIS and has declined to discuss the subject further. While it had a clear influence on her at the time, it did not put an end to her passion for acting. She returned to television in 2020 in the CBS comedy Broke, where she played Jackie, a single mother who takes in her estranged sister and family. Although the show was canceled after one season, Perrette described the experience as “healing.”
While her feud with Mark Harmon likely means Abby Sciuto won’t return to NCIS, Perrette seems to have found peace in leaving a difficult work environment. Fans can still watch her in all 13 episodes of Broke, available for $1.99 each on major platforms.
As of now, Perrette has no known projects in the works, but many are eager to see where she appears next.
