Despite its success, Selleck understood the need for a break after eight years of working 90-hour weeks: “I wasn’t sick of it yet, but it was time.”

Reflecting on his decision to leave in 1988, he expressed appreciation for the role’s impact: “Thomas Magnum is very important to me.”

Selleck’s journey, from late-blooming success to dual hits like “Magnum” and “Blue Bloods,” is a testament to his gratitude and good fortune: “To think it could happen twice makes me feel extremely lucky.”
