‘New York and Boston Are Not Far Apart’: Wahlberg Teases Familiar Faces Returning for Blue Bloods Spinoff

Donnie Wahlberg says Danny Reagan’s story is far from over in Boston Blue-and fans can expect some familiar faces. In a conversation with Parade, Wahlberg teased that members of the Blue Bloods cast, including Tom Selleck’s Frank Reagan, may drop in from time to time. With New York and Boston so close, he hinted that guest appearances are absolutely on the table.
Boston Blue will have to explain Danny’s major decision to leave the NYPD. While Wahlberg wouldn’t reveal the reason-calling it a “big spoiler”-he emphasized that Danny’s independence has always coexisted with his strong family ties. The series premiere may even start with Danny still in New York, giving viewers a chance to adjust alongside him.
The spinoff introduces a brand-new police team, featuring Sonequa Martin-Green, Ernie Hudson, Gloria Reuben, Marcus Scribner, and Maggie Lawson. Danny partners with Martin-Green’s character, Lena Silver, the eldest daughter in another respected police family. Whether this partnership turns romantic remains to be seen, especially given Danny’s lingering grief over Linda.
Wahlberg says the heart of the show lies in watching Danny navigate a dramatic life change. He describes the new series as a balance between placing Danny in unfamiliar territory and honoring the legacy of Blue Bloods, making sure the Reagan spirit stays central to the story.
