NCIS’ Tony DiNozzo Star Reveals Major Flaw in CBS Drama’s Early Seasons – Fans Can’t Unsee It!

Michael Weatherly, who starred as Tony DiNozzo on NCIS, has reunited with former co-stars Sasha Alexander and Cote de Pablo to reflect on the show’s early days – and he’s pointed out a key flaw.

Weatherly and de Pablo, set to reprise their roles as Tony and Ziva in the upcoming NCIS: Tony and Ziva spin-off on Paramount+, have launched Off Duty: An NCIS Rewatch, a podcast revisiting the hit series. In an early episode, they invited Sasha Alexander (Caitlin Todd) to discuss their time together.

Weatherly likened the early NCIS seasons to a “cartoon,” with Alexander agreeing. He explained how in the beginning, due to incomplete scripts, the original team – Gibbs (Mark Harmon), DiNozzo, and Todd – were almost always together in scenes.

“In the beginning, because the scripts were not done,” Weatherly said, “you and me [Alexander] would follow Gibbs in the first act. We’d be in the squad room, grab our gear, then talk to some admiral. Then we’d go into the parking lot and talk about the admiral. Then the AD [assistant director] would say, ‘OK, here’s the next scene,’ and the three of us would talk to someone else. Wouldn’t they split us up?”

Though the NCIS: Tony and Ziva spin-off doesn’t have an official release date yet, fans are excited for its premiere later this year. Whether other NCIS alumni will appear is still a mystery, but fans are hopeful. Sadly, Sasha Alexander won’t return for the reunion, as her character, Caitlin Todd, was tragically k1lled by Ziva’s half-brother Ari (Rudolf Martin) in season two.
