NCIS season 21 saw a timetable change just weeks after its start, frustrating fans. Instead of airing a fresh episode as planned, a replay was shown. The show, like many others, was considerably delayed by last year’s actors’ and writers’ strikes, which pushed its premiere back five months to mid-February.
Despite airing only a few episodes, episode two, “The Stories We Leave Behind,” left a lasting impression as it paid tribute to the late Ducky star David McCallum. The strikes have caused scheduling issues for the 2023-2024 season, resulting in a shorter season 21 with just 13 episodes instead of the usual 22. To maintain a May end date, more regular breaks are necessary.
NCIS will be off the air for two weeks, with the fifth episode, “The Plan,” planned for Monday, March 25. Details concerning this episode have yet to be revealed.
NCIS: Hawaii, the spin-off, will also return on March 25 with an episode titled “Serve and Protect.” The synopsis involves NCIS protecting the daughter of a Russian oligarch while Sam seeks a favor from Tennant.
Despite the hiatuses, there is good news for NCIS fans: another spin-off is in the works, featuring former agents Tony DiNozzo and Ziva David in Paris with their daughter, Tali. Production on the spin-off, dubbed NCIS: Europe, is scheduled to begin later this year.
