NCIS season 18 episode 10 promo: Why is Gibbs getting arrested?

Uh-oh, what did Special Agent Leroy Jethro Gibbs (Mark Harmon) do to land himself on the other side of the law? Turns out, it’ involves a case that will tug at your heartstrings.

The promo for the March 16 episode of NCIS, “Watchdog,” begins with someone arrested for aggravated assault. And apparently NCIS Inspector General Eugene Coyle (Hugo Armstrong) is back — he was last seen in Season 11’s “Dressed to Kill” — and he’s going to take Gibbs into custody. Gibbs, at least, is cuffed in video’s final moments.

“Tell the truth,” Gibbs tells his team prior to that.

But what, exactly, is going on? According to the episode’s logline, “NCIS uncovers a secret dogfighting ring, which leads to an unexpected move by one of the team members.” And in the promo, a doctor hopes “someone pays for this.” Is that what Gibbs did? Or could he be covering for one of his agents?

This latest shock comes after several in the previous episodes. Gibbs had to shoot his Senior Field agent (and one of his best friends) Timothy McGee (Sean Murray) to stop him from getting too close to a plane about to explode. Medical examiner Dr. Jimmy Palmer (Brian Dietzen) revealed that during a time jump, his wife died (off-screen) because of COVID. The agency’s forensic psychologist Jack Sloane (Maria Bello) chose to leave. And in the most recent episode, Gibbs’ old friend Tobias Fornell (Joe Spano) lost his daughter to an overdose. How many more hits are going to come for the team?

Check out the photos for “Watchdog,” below — and just look at that poor dog!

What brings Director Vance (Rocky Carroll) to a holding room?

Kasie (Diona Reasonover) has something to tell the team.

It looks like McGee (Sean Murray) is onto something.

What’s Kasie doing?

Looking for another pet, Torres?

Aww…
