‘NCIS’ and ‘NCIS: Origins’ Join Forces for a Time-Bending Crossover Featuring Mark Harmon’s Return

NCIS is heading into new-and familiar-territory with a special crossover event that bridges past and present. On November 11 (Veterans Day), NCIS and NCIS: Origins will team up for their first crossover since Origins premiered, with episodes titled “Funny How Time Slips Away” and “Now and Then.”
Collider exclusively revealed an extended promo teasing the event-and the long-awaited return of Mark Harmon as Leroy Jethro Gibbs.
In Origins, Gibbs (Austin Stowell) and his team investigate the mysterious 1990s death of a naval officer in the small town of Serenity, California, uncovering secrets that ripple through time. Meanwhile, in NCIS, the present-day team tracks an escaped convict-the same k1ller from the old case-and enlists retired special agent Vera Strickland (Roma Maffia) for help.
The promo also shows Gibbs reflecting on the case from his home in Alaska, where, as showrunner David J. North teases, he’s “no longer alone.” North adds, “Fans have wondered what Gibbs has been up to. We’re thrilled Mark Harmon is returning for this crossover.”
Actor Kyle Schmid, who plays Mike Franks in Origins, said Harmon’s return “elevates” the episode: “When Mark said he’d come back to do Episode 5, we were all over the moon.”
The crossover promises to connect the legacy of Gibbs’ early cases to the present-day NCIS team in a story that spans decades.
