NCIS NOLA star Scott Bakula Will Play in NBC Drama Pilot ‘Unbroken’

Scott Bakula, who starred in Quantum Leap, is returning to NBC as the lead in the ranch drama pilot Unbroken (working title), which he will also executive produce.

In Shaun Cassidy’s Unbroken, three dynastic ranch families on California’s central coast make love and war in a passionate struggle to survive, eventually setting the stage for a group of fiercely determined young women to win big for all at the National Championship of Rodeo.

Bakula will play Ash Holleran, a retired saddle bronc rodeo champion determined to keep the California ranch that has been in his family for generations. With neighbors encroaching on his property and his winery and trail riding businesses barely making a profit, Ash and his extended family will have to dig deep to find a way back to the life they once knew.

“I’m ecstatic to be working with Shaun Cassidy and NBC,” Bakula said. “Shaun has created a rich and complicated world, led by a patriarch who is struggling to keep his family’s 100-year-old ranch while dealing with a variety of surprises.” He wrote a fantastic pilot script that touches on many current issues while remaining deeply rooted in Americana. It’s a new character for me, and I can’t wait to get back in the saddle.”

Bakula has previously played time traveler Sam Beckett on Quantum Leap, which aired on NBC from 1989 to 1993 and earned him four Emmy nominations. Surprisingly, the network has ordered a Quantum Leap reboot pilot with new characters alongside Unbroken this pilot season. Bakula is not involved in this project.

Bakula joins previously announced series regulars Anna Wood, Amanda Payton, Delon de Metz, and Oluniké Adeliyi on Unbroken. The pilot is directed and executive produced by Bronwen Hughes. The studio is Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group.

Bakula was cast in Unbroken in the first pilot season after completing a seven-season run as the lead on CBS’ NCIS: New Orleans. He also starred in the TNT comedy-drama Men of a Certain Age, Star Trek: Enterprise, and the Emmy-winning HBO film Behind the Candelabra, for which he received another Emmy nomination.

Bakula also had a major arc on Chuck at NBC. ICM Partners, Anonymous Content, and Hansen Jacobson represent him.
