Inside the ‘NCIS’ Drama: Mark Harmon’s Return Triggers Behind-the-Scenes Clash

Mark Harmon, the longtime face of NCIS, may be preparing a return to the franchise-but not everyone behind the scenes is enthusiastic.
According to an insider quoted by Radar Online, the 73-year-old actor is considering a recurring comeback to help boost ratings, which have reportedly slipped to No. 10 after years at the top. The decline has allegedly put executives on edge, with concerns about the show’s future.
The source claims Harmon, who played Leroy Jethro Gibbs for nearly two decades and remains an executive producer, is willing to step out of semi-retirement to help stabilize the series. He has already made a cameo on NCIS: Origins, and further appearances have reportedly been discussed.
However, the potential return hasn’t been universally welcomed. Some insiders say there’s frustration over Harmon’s influence, with complaints that he’s “throwing his weight around” and interfering in others’ roles.
Despite the pushback, the source says Harmon believes he has every right to step in if the show is struggling-and that his priority is keeping NCIS from losing its long-held dominance.
